Country music benefit concert helps local nonprofit

COLORADO SPRINGS — People piled into the Gleneagle Circle parking lot as the crowd walked two steps for a good cause: a benefit concert to help a local nonprofit.

Harmonized Brain Centers organized the fundraising effort for Disability Connection, a local nonprofit that aims to bridge the gap for many people struggling financially.

The concert took place on Sunday evening from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Country Music Project came from Denver to perform for the Colorado Springs crowd.

Co-founder of Harmonized Brain Centers, Dallas Shepard has enjoyed working with Disability Connection and its clients for years.

“We love what they do, and also being able to help people who need a little help,” Shepard said.

When he was at another benefit concert earlier this year, Shepard made an offer on The Country Music Project.

“Apparently I scratched my ear one too many times, and I won, and I was like, ‘Well, let’s do another event!’ It was a great group, great people, they had big hearts and they were like, ‘Let’s come here and have fun,'” Shepard said.

Half a dozen local vendors and businesses that work to support people with disabilities were at the event. Of course, the concert was filled with dancing as many couples and friends gathered on the sidewalk dance floor.

“We achieve this. When there’s a will, there’s a way,” said Disability Connection co-founder Carol Van Ness.

Van Ness and her partner Jason have lived their entire lives in communities with disabilities.

Disability Connection has been operating in Colorado Springs for 6 years. Their goal is to help people with disabilities who struggle to get financial assistance to do some of the things they love.

“If there is a need for any reason, recreational, recreational, therapeutic, educational. Whatever the need, we are ready to consider it,” Carol Van Ness said.

“It’s our passion. Absolutely,” said Jason Van Ness.
