Maren Morris Embraces Fox News Calling Her “Crazy Country Music Person” Like A Legend
In America, very little is free. This week, however, the masses had the pure, no-cost joy of seeing Maren Morris – the Grammy-winning country singer – excoriate the anti-trans wife of a less talented (albeit hugely popular) entertainer and noted friend of former President Donald Trump. Picking up Ms. Jason Aldean, which might even prompt his longtime PR firm to in part with her husband on Thursday—Morris is doing what can only be called the Lord’s Work™.
As a general rule, I wouldn’t characterize a woman she decides to become attached to, but since this one seems so fond of characterizing children by their genitals, I feel free to do so. Last week, Aldean released a instagram captioned the video: “I would really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girl life 🤎✌🏼” Her husband clearly approved, commenting, “Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t too, because you and I wouldn’t have worked. 😂”
This exchange did not come as a surprise, given that the Aldeans prideful conservatism— but it was enough to elicit a response from the country artist Pope Cassadee and Morris.
“Is it so easy not to be a human bastard?” Sell your clips and zip ’em, Barbie Uprising’, Morris tweeted. A few hours later, We reported which Aldean appeared to double down via his Instagram Stories, writing:
Advocating for child genital mutilation disguised as love and calling it “gender-affirming care” is one of the worst evils. I will always support my children and do whatever I can to protect their innocence. The other day Memphis wanted to be a dinosaur and tomorrow Navy wants to be a cat, they are children.
There was more back and forth on social media with cameos from Morris’ husband, Ryan Hurd, and none other than Mr. Dirt Road Anthem himself, but it all pales in comparison to Ms. Aldean’s Thursday appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight”—more than a full week after the Instagram post that started it all.
“I stand up for children,” Aldean emphatically told Carlson, the fascist talking head who continues to give the platform to people who cause measurable harm. “I think children shouldn’t be allowed to make these life-changing decisions at such a young age. They are not mature enough; they should have parents who love and defend them despite everything. We have ages on everything. We have it for cigarettes, driving, the army, voting… yet for some reason people think we can let a child choose their gender so young? It’s very disconcerting to me.
Baffling, I would say, is that Aldean claims his transphobic joke was simply “taken out of contextwhile peddling the “Don’t tread on our children” merchandise, or the idea that this woman Actually cares about the kids at all. But that’s neither here nor there, because thanks to Morris, the only relevant takeaway from the segment was that the network referred to him as “Lunatic Country Music Person” in a chyron at the bottom of the screen.
Morris, very carefree, took it as an honor, as it should. She tweeted a screenshot of it, saying “#NewProfilePic”, much to the delight of several people on Twitter.
If you’re one of those lost souls who take pride in the fact that country music “just isn’t your thing”, Morris – and a host of other progressive artists in the industry –should be. This particular hitmaker has a the story to be unafraid to condemn much more than transphobia in his industry, a feat that is not only profoundly cool, but brave, given that taking such positions often leads to unfair consequences (i.e. The chicks). You do not believe me ? Look no further than His countryby Marissa R. Moss.
For pushing the industry a little further left, we salute you, Maren Morris. And for bringing “Barbie Uprising” into our lexicon, we are forever indebted to you.
